About Your Chef
My passion for cooking started at a young age. Growing up, my family didn’t have much money, so we had to be creative in making dinners both delicious and cost-effective. Watching my mom achieve this night after night became inspirational. However, her ability to create delicious meals with next to nothing wasn’t the only thing that captivated me. I was even more inspired by the fact that we bonded as a family during dinner time. Our most open conversations and connecting moments happened over a meal. These moments are some of the most precious memories I have, but it was only the beginning.
As time passed and I grew older, I began to recognize the power of food. The apparent aspect of food is its sustainability, health benefits, medicinal properties, and more. But what I witnessed more was the emotional impact—happiness and friendships formed over dinners. Whether it was observing my father take clients to a nice dinner to strengthen their relationships or classmates sharing lunches and trading dishes so everyone could enjoy their preferred meals. Above all, I cherish the connections I forged while cooking with my classmates in my high school restaurant—the excitement and joy as our dishes came together, and the plates returned empty with compliments on their deliciousness.
I’ve had numerous experiences throughout my life, many of which were enriched by sharing a meal with strangers or acquaintances. At the age of 21, I moved to Germany, and it was there that my eyes truly opened, and I came to appreciate the full power of food. I’ll never forget the first week of moving to Germany when I met a few local friends. They offered to help me experience Germany, and one of the first things they did was take me to a restaurant with authentic German food. It was so different. The food was hearty yet delicate, and it tasted remarkably fresh. This experience showed me that food is not only an excellent social tool but also a way to learn about cultures and their offerings.
I’ve dined with families in Italy in their homes, taken cooking classes in Thailand with locals in their kitchens, savored street food in China, enjoyed whole fish in Malta, and participated in a cooking class in a professional kitchen in London. These experiences have allowed me to make friends and gain insights into their cultures in ways that I believe are not commonly understood. I’ve learned about the ingredients that drive economies, understood why certain ingredients are used and how they’re prepared according to tradition, and even discovered the stories behind the creation of some dishes. These experiences have led me to spend years perfecting recipes, from authentic Pad Thai from Thailand to Beef Wellington for an elegant dinner, and crafting vibrant Indian curries for a burst of flavor. Now, I want to share my knowledge with others and foster connections with the different cultures and people I’ve encountered, bringing a new understanding of the profound role that food and cooking can play.
